Former Intelligence Director visits Roanoke to speak about cyber security

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The former director of national intelligence will be in Roanoke Wednesday morning.

James Clapper will give a keynote address at a conference focusing on cybersecurity education at Hotel Roanoke.

Clapper is well-known as his work with President Obama.

He'll be talking about improving educational opportunities in the field.

Roanoke County Public Schools, with support from the Virginia Society for Technology in Education (VSTE), is hosting the Making Connections conference for school districts in Virginia's Regions 4, 5, 6 and 7.  This conference will highlight the need for a skilled cyber security workforce.

The Making Connections conference will include leaders from K-12 school divisions in Virginia Regions 4, 5, 6 and 7.  In addition to the scheduled keynote presentation from Mr. Clapper, the conference will include cyber security presentations from Virginia Tech University and Radford University.  Further, several national cyber security and cloud security experts are scheduled to make presentations.  Virginia Department of Education representatives will be available to discuss requirements for the 2018 required Virginia Technology Plan.

Following the Clapper's address, WSLS 10's Patrick McKee will moderate a panel discussion
