Blacksburg mayor not seeking re-election

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - Blacksburg Mayor Ron Rordam took to social media on Wednesday to announce he will not seek re-election.

Rordam said Blacksburg has a strong budget and policies to move the town forward which makes it the right time to step down.

"It's something that I've enjoyed immensely and it's just really been an honor to serve all the citizens of Blacksburg and to get to know so many people so well. When you're mayor, it's really all about people and I love that. I'm not going anywhere and I'll still see everybody," said Rordam.

Rordam took office as mayor in 2006. He came to Blacksburg in 1976, became the Planning Commissioner in 1992 and part of the council in 1996.

His last day on the job is December 31.
