Baby born with four legs, two spines survives complex surgery

CNN – PARK RIDGE, Ill. (CNN) - A hospital in Illinois is showing off a baby with a new lease on life after a complex surgery to remove a parasitic conjoined twin.

Baby Dominique, a 10-month-old from West Africa, was born with four legs and two spines.

Dominique had a twin, but she never fully developed, instead fusing with her in the womb.

Doctors at Advocate Children's Hospital in Park Ridge removed the extra limbs in a six-hour surgery last week.

She still has two spines that are closely connected, but doctors don't believe it will affect her.

The medical team included five surgeons and more than 50 physicians spanning specialties across the hospital.

She's recovering with a foster family in Chicago while her parents and siblings await her return home to the Ivory Coast.
