Averett creates new website to help increase volunteerism in the Dan River Region

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Averett University is trying to make volunteering easier for people in and around Danville.

The university has created a new website that acts as a virtual job board. It is designed to help connect the public with local volunteer opportunities.

Companies, organizations and individuals can create a profile on the website and post volunteer opportunities.

The university previously created a website just for students and staff at Averett, but now wants to give the public the same opportunity.

"It worked really well with our students, so we really wanted to provide that opportunity to our entire region," said Averett Assistant Community Engagement Director Rachel Covington.

"Every resident in the city of Danville, Pittsylvania County and Caswell County now have access to it. It's a great way for them to figure out how they can get engaged in our community," Covington continued.

The website is a partnership between the university and the Dan River Nonprofit Network.
