Search continues for Henry County high-speed chase suspect

HENRY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The search continued on Monday for the suspect who led a Henry County sheriff's deputy on a high-speed chase.

It happened at about 11 a.m. on Sunday.

A deputy was in Fieldale investigating another case when he spotted a car that had been reported stolen.

The deputy tried to stop the car, but the driver sped off.

When the chase reached speeds of more than 70 miles per hour, the deputy backed off because the chase was going through a residential area.

He found the car abandoned nearby a short time later.

"He observed some grass where a vehicle had run off the highway at the intersection of Dillon's Fork and Carver Road. As he proceeded out Carver Road, he ultimately found that the vehicle had crashed," said Henry County Sheriff's Office investigator Wayne Davis.

The car was stolen from a junkyard in Franklin County along the Henry-Franklin County line.

According to Davis, the car was processed by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and returned to the owner.

As of Monday afternoon, the suspect was only described as a white man.
