Roanoke Police warn about academy donation call scam

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) – Roanoke police are alerting people about a phone scam in the area.

Police say they’ve a couple of reports of someone posing as a captain at the Roanoke Police Training Academy who is asking for charitable donations in order to benefit the academy. People say the caller asks for a credit card number in order to complete the donation.

The department said that this is a scam as police do not solicit any charitable donations for the academy.

Anyone who receives a phone call like this is advised to hang up.
