ROANOKE (WSLS) – Friday was a big day for Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine students, as they achieved a 100-percent residency match placement.
This is the fourth year in a row where the entire class matched with programs nationwide.
The students celebrated in a packed auditorium filled with friends, family, and fellow classmates.
“It’s surreal because when I started I thought I wanted to be a neurologist. Since middle school I always wanted to be a doctor, now it’s official, I can say I’m going to be a surgeon,” said medical student Sarah Abdulla.
Medical students across the country opened up their envelopes at noon Friday to see if they would advance to a residency program.
