ROANOKE COUNTY, CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) – JCPenney will close two southwest Virginia locations.

The company announced on Friday that it will close the store in the New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg and at Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke County.

The closures are part of the plan the company announced earlier this month.

Approximately 5,000 positions will be impacted nationwide.

Most stores are expected to close in June.

JCPenney will provide outplacement support services to affected employees.

The liquidation process is expected to begin on April 17th.
