Altavista Town Council members charged with prohibited activities at polls

ALTAVISTA (WSLS 10) -Two members of the Altavista Town Council have been arrested for carrying our prohibited activities at the polls.

Michele Brumfield, 55, and James Higginbotham II, 61, were indicted earlier this week by a grand jury in Campbell County Circuit Court, according to online records.

They're accused of violating Virginia Code Section 24.2-604 which prohibits certain actions when bolls are open and ballots are being counted.

According to the court's website, the incident happened on November 8, 2016, which was Election Day.

Brumfield and Higginbotham are due back in court March 22 for attorney advisement hearings.

Both are still listed as council members on the town website.
