What’s News Today: March 15, 2017

(WSLS 10) – The funeral takes place today for a Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy who died on the job. Curtis Bartlett died in a car crash on Thursday while responding to a chase. The funeral begins at 2 p.m. at Galax First Baptist Church.

Today is the last day to apply to be a participant of RAMP. The technology business accelerator helps companies in the STEM-H fields expand and create jobs. Participants will get mentoring, networking opportunities and access to capital. The program is expected to start in June.

If you bought a lottery ticket in Chesapeake in September of last year, check your numbers. Today is the last day to claim your $1 million prize. The ticket matched five numbers in the Mega Millions drawing on September 16th. Virginia lottery expire after 180 days.

Roanoke College talk about the Affordable Care Act tonight. Two professors and a policy expert will talk about “The Facts, Fiction and Future of the Affordable Care Act.” The discussion begins at 7 p.m. in the Logan Gallery of the college’s Bank Building.

Attend a health screening at the Roanoke Main Library today. A health educator from Carilion Clinic will be there to take your blood pressure and conduct a diabetes risk assessment. The screenings are free and take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lane closures will take place today on Routes 251 and 646 in Rockbridge County today. These closure will allow crews to replace a pipe. Flaggers will direct traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
