(WSLS 10) - A Pulaski County man, charged with murder in connection with a fire and suspicious death investigation in July, is in court today for a preliminary hearing. Daniel James faces a number of charges including first degree murder and arson in the death of Roger Roope. Deputies say that firefighters were putting out a fire in the 67 hundred block of Cleburne Boulevard when they found a badly burned body. The medical examiner says that the victim had been shot.

Members of the Danville Youth Council will meet today. Last month, four members met with staff from the Economic and Community Development Departments to talk about projects that affect teens, including places for teens to spend time, downtown infrastructure and opportunities for teens.

Have Coffee with a Cop today in Franklin County. The program gives people in the community to meet with law enforcement in a casual environment. Deputies will be at the Bonjangles in Westlake today from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

A town hall meeting takes place today as Virginia Tech looks to the future. The university is working on its master plan that will shape how its campuses grow in the future. The new plan will include strategies for using existing space as well as the development of new facilities. Today's town hall starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Burruss Hall Auditorium.
