College students volunteer at Rescue Mission during spring break

ROANOKE (WSLS) - Many college students are home for spring break, but not all of them are taking a break.

More than 50 students from various colleges and universities are using the time off to offer a helping hand at the Roanoke Rescue Mission.

Students from at least four different schools including Lehigh University and Holy Cross are serving as volunteers.

They're doing various assignments around the rescue mission including working in the kitchen, preparing food, and sorting donations.

"I'm doing things I thought I'd never be doing, I'm preparing food for others, I'm just doing the service for others that I normally wouldn't be able to do," says student, Rajan Jones, of Lehigh University.

The student volunteers will continue serving the rescue mission until Friday.
