State police identify 29-year-old who died in Bedford County crash involving school bus

MONETA (WSLS 10) - Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a school bus in Bedford County.

Officers say the call came in at 7:43 a.m. Friday about a crash at 24 Joppa Mill Road in Moneta.

Police say the bus was heading west on VA-24 and a 1993 Chevrolet Geo Tracker SUV was heading east on VA-24. The driver of the SUV, a 17-year-old from Moneta, stopped in order to make a left turn onto Joppa Mill Road. Police say a 2005 Ford F-250, also heading east behind the SUV, was traveling too fast and in order to avoid hitting the SUV swerved to pass on the left and hit the bus head-on. The driver of the pickup truck was killed.
