Live stream of Danville Osprey nest set up to help promote education

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - The Danville Parks and Rec Department is giving people a unique opportunity to view some of the city's wildlife.

The department has set up a 24/7 live stream of an Osprey nest along the Dan River. An osprey is a predatory bird similar to a bald eagle.

The nest is on a platform behind the utilities' department.

The platform was set up about two years ago by the utilities' department in an effort to relocate birds nesting on power poles.

"It's a good way to show the community what's around us, what resources are around us, and what ecosystems we have here. So, it's a good education piece," said Danville Parks and Rec Communications Director Russell Carter.

Another nest is located on top of the electrical tower in the river in front of the YMCA, but it does not have a camera.
