Firefighters in Bedford County battle multiple fires in three-hour span

BEDFORD COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Bedford County firefighters battled three fires Thursday afternoon and evening.

The first was called in at about 3:45 p.m. at a mobile home on Unity Lane in Chamblissburg.

When fire units from Stewartsville-Chamblissburg, Moneta, and Bedford arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames.

A family of four was displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. Their home was a total loss.

Crews say the fire was started by their six-year-old son playing with matches outside the home.

While the fire in Chamblissburg was going on, there was a report of a shed and woods fire on Draper Road, just east of the town of Bedford.

Units from the Bedford Fire Department and Bedford County Fire & Rescue responded and extinguished this blaze, which destroyed the shed and about an acre of woods.

At about 6:45 p.m., crews say multiple reports of a large woods fire on Gunstock Lane in the Big Island area of the county were received.

Ten fire trucks from Big Island, Bedford and Boonsboro responded and worked for several hours to extinguish this fire that consumed about five acres of brush, woods and an abandoned house.

There were no injuries at any of these fires and all three fires are under investigation by the county fire marshal's office
