Local food banks receive large shipment of milk and juice

CONCORD (WSLS 10) - Milk and juice are nutrition staples, but they're not often found in local food banks.

That's why when Gleaning for the World received a call from a partner agency in Michigan late last week offering a large shipment of the beverages, Gleaning accepted without hesitation.

Two tractor-trailers arrived at the Concord warehouse Thursday, where people were waiting to take it back to food pantries. They had to act fast because of the shelf life.

"It's going to go in a hurry. You just do not get juice and milk products," said Rev. Ron Davidson. "So everyone we've contacted has been elated that we've been able to get this type of product."

The shipment represents 264,000 5-ounce servings of milk and juice. Minute Maid is the major donor.
