Gretna pastor hopes to bring growth to the town by renovating old high school

GRETNA (WSLS 10) - Work is underway to create more educational and social opportunities for people in Gretna.

Rev. Kell Stone and his wife are renovating the old Northside High School in Gretna.

His church, Gospel Tabernacle Outreach Center, recently bought the building with the plan to turn it into an education and community center.

He hopes it will increase education in the town which will encourage young people to stay in the area, rather than move away.

"More jobs, more opportunities will be accessible so our kids that are graduating high school and going to college would want to come back here and be a part to help grow this community," Stone said.

Donations are currently being accepted to help cover the cost of renovations, particularly in the gym which Stone estimates needs about $100,000 worth of work.

A grand opening celebration is scheduled for April 15.
