FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSLS 10) – The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates about 20 veterans commit suicide every day.

Thank You for Your Service” sheds light on what producers say is a “behavioral health crisis” in the military.

Healing Strides of Virginia is hosting a viewing at the Carmike 10 Tanglewood next Tuesday.

Following that, the non-profit is holding an open house for veterans and their families to check out the therapy offered through interaction with horses.

Jason Hogancamp knows firsthand what equine therapy can do for a veteran with PTSD.

“If you had a knot so big that you couldn’t swallow. If you had a load so big that you couldn’t carry and just give that to that animal and he’ll take it away,” Hogancamp explained.  “He’ll swish a tail, he will tweak a ear, he’ll take a deep breath and blow out and just walk away.”

“We don’t charge our veterans to be here. That’s the one program we don’t charge for at all,” said Healing Strides of Virginia Executive Director Carol Young.

If you would like tickets you can call Healing Strides of Virginia at 540-334-5825 and ask for a will call ticket.
