Virginia Tech wrestling wins ACC team title

RALEIGH, NC (WSLS 10 SPORTS) – News of head coach Kevin Dresser leaving Virginia Tech for Iowa State did not hinder the Hokies performance in the ACC wrestling championship. The Hokies won the ACC team title Saturday in Raleigh for the third time in program history.

Seven wrestlers advanced to the finals in their weight classes, six of them with wins. One of those wins came from Zach Epperly, who faced Wolfpack’s Ethan Ramos in a rematch of last year’s final, that Ramos won. Epperly got revenge by taking home the 174 ACC title this year.

“Real special, the last two years I’ve come up short and taken third then secnd, then tonight being able to avenge my loss against the guy that beat me last year is huge,” Epperly said.

“ACC titles are always fun, they’re always nice to have so I’m just proud of the way we performed I’m proud of the way the coaches prepared our guys and we’re going to enjoy this for a day or two and then we’re going to move on,” explained interim coach Tony Robie.

The Hokies are heading to the DI wrestling championships next week.
