Bedford to soon receive water from Smith Mountain lake

BEDFORD (WSLS 10) - The Bedford Regional Water Authority will start sending water from Smith Mountain Lake to town of Bedford customers on March 20.

The line will feed fewer than 100,000 gallons a day at first. That's about 10-percent of the town's daily demand.

The authority will ramp up the volume from the lake over time, reducing the amount the town pulls from Stoney Creek.

This is the first phase of a waterline project that will run all the way to Forest. Construction continues along US 460.
