She was taken to the hospital for an evaluation and will be charged for shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Roanoke police are involved in a standoff situation on Avendale Avenue NE.

Police received a call at about 2:30 p.m. for a well-being check on a woman, according to Scott Leamon with the police department.

After 6 p.m., police have broken windows in the home as they continue to work to have the woman leave the building.

As of 6 p.m., a sergeant at the scene said police are negotiating with the woman inside the home.

Right before 6 p.m., several loud booms could be heard from the home.

Police have also been using a loudspeaker to ask the woman inside to exit the home.

As officers initially approached the house on Tuesday afternoon, they heard a gunshot and backed away.

Police believe she is the only person inside the home.

She refuses to leave and is also refusing to let officers in, according to Leamon.

People in the neighborhood are able to walk around freely.
