Judge upholds sentence in child abuse case

BEDFORD (WSLS 10) - A Bedford County judge hasn't changed his mind about the sentence he gave a man who forced a 13-year-old girl to sleep in a locked closet.

Arsean Hobbs was sentenced to serve three years at his sentencing in November.

On Tuesday, his attorney asked the judge to reconsider because of Hobbs' wife's failing health.

Judge Jim Updike stuck with his original sentence of five years with two suspended, which is above sentencing guidelines.

Updike called the facts of the case horrible.
