Hokie Hall of Famer named ACC Legend

ROANOKE (WSLS 10 SPORTS) - It's an elite club and a membership is exclusive. Only one basketball player per ACC school is selected each year. This year, one Roanoke man is joining the group of men named ACC Legends.

"I thinking how, you usually see people like Dell Curry, Michael Jordan, Shelden Williams, people like that in that league but I never pictured myself in that position."

Virginia Tech Hall of Famer Bobby Beecher is one of 15 players inducted into this years ACC Legends class. He's in good company, alongside Syracuse great Dwayne "Pearl" Washington and beloved NC State coach Jim Valvano. Jimmy V. is known for leading the Wolfpack to the 1983 National Championship and for his heroic fight against cancer.

"I was shocked, looking at the players that were selected this year from the other schools, coaches, Jim Valvano, being included in a class like that is very humbling," Beecher said.

Beecher finished his Virginia Tech career eighth in scoring and sixth in rebounds. He was part of one of the Hokies top recruiting classes, that included Dell Curry, Keith Colbert, Perry Young and Al Young.

"The five of us playing together as a team, if one person was off one night, someone else picked it up and that's how it was all three years and it was just a great time."

All 15 of this years ACC Legends inductees will be honored in Brooklyn during the 2017 ACC tournament, Beecher and his wife Lana will be there.
