Bedford Town Council looks at future of middle school property

BEDFORD (WSLS 10) - Architects and engineers have examined the current Bedford Middle School property and reported their findings to the Bedford Town Council.

Councilman Stacey Hailey took WSLS 10 inside the abandoned stucco school building nicknamed "Old Yellow," which was built around 1908 and has been empty since the 1990s.

The report says it will require extensive upgrades and repairs for future use.

The brick middle school building will be empty when a new middle school opens in 2018.

Hailey believes an outside investor may have interest in the property.

"There's a lot of stuff going in town, like the brewery over here, the lofts and stuff.  They were taking the buildings and took them from basically crumbles almost to like brand new to open businesses in town." said Hailey.

There are two additional buildings, a gym and a cafeteria, on the site.

Council members toured the property late last month.
