Orchards damaged by weekend cold freezes

BOONES MILL (WSLS 10) - After two nights of cold freezes during the weekend, some local orchard owners are starting to feel the bite.

Mark Woods, the owner of Woods Farms in Boones Mill, said about 15 percent of his peach orchards were damaged as a result of the freezing temperatures.

He said his trees are budding and already showing far more pink flowers than he would like this time of the year.

"If we get a cold snap it could wipe them out but that's just part of the game," Woods.

Woods, who also grows apples and cherries, said the rest of his fruits have not been damaged by the cold.
