Roanoke woman charged with child neglect after found in car unresponsive with two others

ROANOKE (WSLS10) A woman is behind bars after police found her and two others passed out in a car with her child in the backseat.

Roanoke Police say Charles Breedlove, 31, Stephanie Bush, 39, and April Maxwell, 29, were found Sunday night in t he parking lot of Dollar General on Orange Ave.

Breedlove and Bush were charged with being intoxicated in public.

Maxwell was found unresponsive in the back seat.  Roanoke Fire EMS removed her from the car and administered Narcan in order to revive her. She was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. Maxwell's infant child was also found unrestrained in a child safety seat in the back seat.

The baby was crying and was cared for by first responders on the scene. The child was determined to be okay and officers called Child Protective Services, who came to pick the child up.

Maxwell was released from the hospital, taken to the Roanoke City Jail, and charged with felony child neglect.

Officers seized numerous items of paraphernalia related to heroin use in the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
