4th annual Roanoke County Backpack Run includes new event

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) -  The 4th annual Backpack Run is coming up.  Money raised goes to help students and teachers across Roanoke County with scholarships and grants.   You can run and take the backpack challenge by filling up a new backpack with school supplies and dropping it off after the race.  For the first time they are doing a fun run of a shorter distance of 2.5K to get more younger kids involved that might not be ready to do a full 5K.

"We wanted to do something to encourage physical activity for younger children especially so we thought let's do a 2.5 K. The course essentially is one lap and the 5K is two laps," said Chuck Lionberger, Roanoke County Public Schools.

You have to register by Wednesday, March 1 to be guaranteed a t-shirt that will be made by local high school students.

For more information or to register visit the Roanoke County registration page.
