Appomattox tornado survivor says community is thankful

APPOMATTOX COUNTY (WSLS 10) -  A lot has changed since a tornado touched down in Appomattox in February 2016, particularly for one woman who lost her home and husband.

Five months after the tornado hit, WSLS 10 teamed up with God's Pit Crew and Spirit FM for Rebuilding Hope.

It was a partnership to get Nancy Harris, who lost everything, out of a hotel and back into a place of her own.

We caught up with her this week to reflect on the past 12 months.

At the community's remembrance ceremony Thursday night, Nancy reflected on what she encountered a year ago.

“When I was coming down the road it rained so hard, you know, you couldn't see anything and the wind was just so violent,” Nancy explained.

Even though this community has endured a lot Nancy says it's been an opportunity to witness blessings.
