Franklin County teen invites community to her first ever birthday party

FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSLS 10) - This weekend, a Franklin County teen will enjoy her first ever birthday party and she's hoping the community will horse around with her.

Maggie Mays has an autoimmune disorder, so growing-up, her parents were reluctant to throw a birthday party in February at the peak of flu season.

With the help of crowdFunnit, Maggie and dozens of others will celebrate her sweet sixteen at the non-profit where she takes horse therapy lessons, Healing Strides of Virginia.

Robin Mays, Maggie’s mom, said the goal to be inclusive of the special needs community.

“Her theme is she's going to be a princess, so she's going to get to do a princess ride on a pony to show everybody how she rides,” said Robin.

Anyone is invited to come celebrate Saturday.
