Franklin County teen invites community to her first ever birthday party

FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSLS 10) - This weekend, a Franklin County teen will enjoy her first ever birthday party and she's hoping the community will horse around with her.

Maggie Mays has an autoimmune disorder, so growing-up, her parents were reluctant to throw a birthday party in February at the peak of flu season.

With the help of crowdFunnit, Maggie and dozens of others will celebrate her sweet sixteen at the non-profit where she takes horse therapy lessons, Healing Strides of Virginia.

Robin Mays, Maggieโ€™s mom, said the goal to be inclusive of the special needs community.

โ€œHer theme is she's going to be a princess, so she's going to get to do a princess ride on a pony to show everybody how she rides,โ€ said Robin.

Anyone is invited to come celebrate Saturday.
