Partnership between Carilion Clinic and Virginia Health Care Foundation helps children for affordable health care

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A partnership between Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Health Care Foundation is making a difference for hundreds of children who need affordable health care.

Thanks to increased funding, the partnership has expanded.

More than 200 kids were enrolled in the program this past quarter.

A new team member has also been added to help identify families and patients in need of coverage.

"So we refer any child who comes into the emergency room or any doctor office that don't have coverage and then we reach out the parents, do a screening to see if they would be eligible, based on their income," says patient financial specialist, Jessica McGraw, of Carilion Clinic.

Staff members also go to families' homes to help them complete the application process.
