More 10th Street improvements in Roanoke to begin this summer

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded a $10.7 million contract to Fielder's Choice Enterprises, a Charlottesville-based contractor, to improve safety and traffic flow on 10th Street in Roanoke.

The project, which is taking place in the .9-mile section between Andrews Road and Williamson Road, will include reconstructing the two travel lanes, providing sidewalks, bicycle lanes, along with a curb and gutter.

Traffic signals are being added on 10th Street's intersections with Hunt Avenue and Williamson Road. Also, a turn lane is being added at 10th Street's intersection with Hunt Avenue.

This will be the second of two phases for improvements on 10th Street. The first phase, which is happening on 10th Street between Fairfax Avenue and Andrews Road, is expected to be completed in summer 2018.

The construction for the second phase is expected to begin summer 2017 and completed fall 2019.
