Roanoke fourth grader pays it forward by reading to kindergartners

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A Roanoke elementary school student is paying it forward to his teacher and her class.

Every day, fourth-grader Elvis Yendeh reads to a kindergarten class at Wasena Elementary School.

He came up with the idea after kindergarten teacher Ms. Kacey Gallagher helped him with his work after school.

“The teacher, she helps me with my homework, so I want to repay her by reading to her class and pay it forward to her,” Elvis explained.

“He's in fourth grade. That's so young to be trying to return the favor for something that I don't think is a big deal,” said Gallegher.

To say thank you to Elvis, Ms. Gallagher's class made him personalized valentines.

Elvis said he wants to continue reading to the kindergarteners next year in fifth grade before he heads to middle school.
