January meals tax revenue increases year-over-year in Rocky Mount

ROCKY MOUNT (WSLS 10) - The town of Rocky Mount is continuing to see record growth from its largest revenue source. Monthly meals tax revenue continues to improve in Rocky Mount.

According to the latest numbers from Rocky Mounts finance department, the town of Rocky Mount collected $127,602 during the month of January from the tax.

 

That number is up more than $8,000 from the past two Januarys.

According to numbers provided by finance director Linda Woody, in January 2016, the town collected $119,400 meals tax revenue. In January 2015, the town collected $118,367.

In addition, the amount of money collected in January 2017 was higher than any single month in 2016. Leaders in Franklin County say tourism remains a driving force in the local economy, as well as the reason for high meals tax revenue.The increase in meals tax revenue has continued to rise since the opening of the Harvester Performance Center in Rocky Mount.
