ROANOKE (WSLS 10) – The number of passengers traveling through the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is on the rise.
In January, passenger traffic was up nearly 6 percent compared to this time last year.
This marks the fifth consecutive quarter where the airport has seen growth.
Director of Marketing and Air Service Development Brad Boettcher said the growth could lead to more opportunities in the future.
“As we have these traffic increases, we can take this to the carriers to try and get added service whether it’s additional capacity, which can lead to lower fairs or new destinations so we’re pretty excited about that,” said Boettcher.
The airport anticipates this trend will make it more competitive compared to other airports.
