Court date postponed for 14-year-old accused of trying to kill baby

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A hearing set for Tuesday for the 14-year-old Roanoke girl accused of trying to kill her newborn is postponed at the request of her attorney.

The new date for the certification hearing is April 27. That's the juvenile court equivalent of a preliminary hearing, where a judge will decide if a grand jury will hear the case.

The police department says an officer found the baby boy stuffed inside a box on Harrison Avenue January 5.

The baby survived, but an investigator previously testified the child has brain damage.

The mother is charged with attempted murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and child neglect.
