Built in the Blue Ridge: Dreams.Build

Built in the Blue Ridge

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) – Dreams.Build is joining the $34 billion crowdfunding industry.

It uses a two-stage approach, allowing companies to get money to start up and then to continue growing.  “The first stage is meant to hit your goal, to get your minimal viable product to get out to market,” said company founder Dakota Gallimore. “We go into the second stage, which is all supported funding. Basically, you raise and keep any money that you raise. When you do that, it allows you to plan for the long term, two-to-four months of stretch funding.”

Projects fall into one of 25 different categories including, technology, entertainment, space and art.

To help companies get the tools they need, developers are working on an app to help startups. It will work like Uber, but instead of finding rides, it finds nearby companies to help with things like video production, marketing and equipment rentals.

Company leaders started the project with a desire to help people realize their dreams, while also making the community a better place.  Each month, they will donate 5 percent of their revenues to a charity.

“I want to do something that will make a difference and change people’s lives. So from the very beginning, we had the charity aspect,” said Gallimore.

After a successful test in January, the site will launch on February 22 in 23 different countries.
