Blacksburg residents cleaning up after wind damage

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - People in the New River Valley are cleaning up uprooted trees and debris following strong winds overnight and during the early part of Monday. Tree service workers spent much of the day cutting up trees and removing them from the Meadowbrook Mobile Home Park in Blacksburg.

One of those trees fell in the middle of a home. Certified tree arborist Adam Hawthorne said it doesn't take much wind to blow down a tree.

"There's been a lot of wind damage up here and this top part of the hillside just got hit really hard last night, so we are here cleaning up the aftermath," said Hawthorne.

Arborists say it's important for residents to check the area surrounding trees in their yard if a wind advisory is issued is their area.
