Man charged with possession of explosive device following traffic stop in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - On February 12, 2017 at 11:34am a deputy with the Henry County Sheriff's Office observed a Chevrolet Prizm driving recklessly while heading South on the Rt.220 / 58 bypass. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 1900 block of Joseph Martin Hwy.

According to authorities, the deputy questioned the driver and he presented an object that the deputies believed to be suspicious. Upon further investigation the deputies suspected it to be an improvised explosive device said officials. The Virginia State Police Bomb Unit responded to the scene and determined that it was an improvised explosive device and rendered it safe. The device was manufactured from commercially available fireworks material.

The driver, Davy Warren Roark 52, of 127 Flinchum Dr., Harmony, NC was charged with possession of explosive device (felony), reckless driving (misdemeanor) and defective equipment (summons). He was jailed without bond.

The Crimestoppers Program offers rewards up to $2500.00 for information related to crime. The nature of the crime and the substance of the information determine the amount of reward paid.
