ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) -   The Roanoke County School Board approved school calendars for the next two years. This comes after a survey proposed three options and asked parents and staff for feedback. Two were earlier start dates allowing the first semester to end before Winter Break.  This is currently what Roanoke City, Botetourt County, and Franklin County do.

For 2017-18, the board approved a traditional calendar with school starting on August 23 with the first semester ending on January 12, 2018.  The last day of school will be June 6 with graduation on June 8.  The Oct. 26 teacher workday was moved to Oct. 27.
