Options being discussed for Chatham armory building

CHATHAM (WSLS 10) - Pittsylvania County is trying to decide what to do with the old National Guard building in Chatham.

The Virginia Department of Military Affairs sold the building to the county this week for $1.

It was closed last year to consolidate the guard post with the one in Danville.

At the county's building and grounds committee meeting on Thursday, options were expected to be discussed.

Committee chairman Joe Davis said this is exciting because there are so many possibilities.

"The uses could be far more than any I could even bring up; the opportunity to serve the city, as well as the county," Davis said. "We look forward to implementing this in the future and having a growing process right here in Chatham."

No decision was expected to be made at Thursday's meeting. When a decision is made, the committee will recommend the decision to the county's board of supervisors for approval.
