Eight people without a home after apartment fire in Roanoke

Update: Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to the fire at 9:02pm and crews say it was under control by 9:47 pm.

When crews arrived they found heavy fire conditions on the rear porch and heavy smoke coming from the attic. This two story house was split into two apartments. Smoke alarms alert the residents and they were able to escape before firefighters arrived.

Crews say an adult and one child, sustained some burn injuries. They were treated and released at the scene.

Eight people were displaced (4 adults and 4 children).

Crews say the cause of the fire was improper transfer of flammable liquids(gasoline) and the fire started on the back porch.

The building sustained heavy smoke, fire and water damage. Damage estimates are about $66,500.


ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Eight people are without a home as crews investigate what caused an apartment fire in Roanoke.

The Roanoke Fire Department says it happened in the 700 block of Highland Avenue.

Crews received the call a little after 9 p.m. The fire affected two apartments.

No one was hurt and the American Red Cross is helping the family.
