One man hospitalized after overnight shooting in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A pool of dried blood and a bloody bandage could be seen on the ground Wednesday at the entrance to Northview Gardens apartment complex, marking the spot where the sheriff's office says 33 year old Lewis Antonio Preston was found shot three times around nine Tuesday night.

"None of his injuries were life threatening. He's being uncooperative at this time," Henry County Sheriff Lane Perry said Wednesday morning.

Over the past three months, Sheriff Perry says there have been multiple calls about shots fired around the apartment complex or people from the area showing up to the hospital.

In each incident, no one cooperates with investigators.

"We want to remind people, the public, that this will turn deadly. It's fortunate that we haven't had a murder that has occurred because of this but we need the public's help bin getting this matter solved," Sheriff Perry emphasized.

"There's apparently something that's causing this type of problem."

Richard Hopkins lives next to the apartment complex and says this type of activity happens at the complex all the time.

"I try to stay away from [the complex]," Hopkins said.

When asked what he thought might be behind the violence, "I don't know. I can't tell you that," he said.

Another man WSLS spoke to says he moved away from the area about a year ago in part because of everything that was going on, but he says overall the area seemed to be fairly quiet.

One person who lives at the complex says they heard nine shots Tuesday night.

Sheriff Perry says that's still under investigation, but there may have actually been more than nine.

Anyone having information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact the Henry County Sheriff's Office at (276) 638-8751.
