LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - A local tow truck driver is recovering at home after he was hit by a car Saturday morning on the Lynchburg Expressway.
Jeremy Okes, who works for Bee Line Transport, was loading a pick-up truck onto a wrecker near Kemper Street around 8:30 a.m.. and the roads were slick from the ice. Bee Line owner Kevin Jones said a car hit the truck and wrecker, then Okes.
"It knocked him about 20 feet from where he was standing," said Kevin Jones. "It hit him hard enough to cut his shoe wide open and cut into his foot and knock his shoe off of him. It was a pretty good impact."
Okes was released from the hospital. He said he has major bruising and is using crutches.
Police charged the car's driver, Keely Coleman, with reckless driving. Coleman, 21, was also taken to the hospital. She said of the accident on social media, "It happened because I tried to get over, not because I didn't."
Jones said Okes was wearing the proper reflective gear at the time he was hit.
Jones issued a plea to drivers to slow down and move over when the see amber tow truck lights on the side of the road.
