State Police Search for Driver in Roanoke Chase

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Virginia State Police are looking for the person that led troopers on a chase down Interstate 581.

According to Police, troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop for a Chevy Suburban that was driving 69 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Troopers on scene say the suspect took off and went back and forth across northbound and southbound lanes, reaching speeds of 100 mph.

Police followed the suspect on to the Orange Avenue exit and ended the chase. The suspect ran away on foot after hitting several parked cars near Orange Avenue and 12th Street.

The search has been called off for the night. No word on why the suspect ran.
