SALEM (WSLS 10) – Virgina State Police are asking for help finding the person who led them on a high-speed chase Sunday night.
At about 9:34 p.m., a state trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban speeding on Interstate 581 South in the city of Roanoke.
The driver refused to stop and drove away, reaching speeds of 110 mph in a 55 mph zone, according to state police.
The state trooper pursued the vehicle and during the chase, the Suburban exited I-581 at Orange Avenue, which is when the trooper stopped the chase.
Police say after exiting the highway, the driver of the Suburban hit five unoccupied, parked vehicles near the intersection of Orange Avenue and 11th Street, then left the Suburban and ran away.
When the trooper arrived at the Suburban, he says he found it unoccupied, with the keys still in the ignition and engine running.
Police say their search of the vehicle netted 9 pounds of marijuana, some crack cocaine and $2,300 in cash.
Anyone with information about the driver is asked to call Virginia State Police at 540-375-9500 or on a cell phone at #77 or email them at firstname.lastname@example.org
