Lynchburg native part of John Glenn funeral service

COLUMBUS, OHIO (WSLS 10) - A young marine from Lynchburg had an opportunity of a lifetime. He was one of the few, the proud, to participate in the final salute for astronaut and fellow Marine John Glenn.

Lance Cpl. Adrian Rees stood guard at the foot of Glenn's casket as Glenn laid in repose inside the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus last week.

Rees, who graduated from Heritage High School in 2015, is assigned to Marine Barracks Washington D.C. as an infantry rifleman.

His mother-in-law said she gets emotional looking at the photo.

"That one just him standing there, it was just filled with pride, just huge," said Sherry Baunach.

Rees and his wife Cara are expecting a baby boy. Baunach is looking forward to one day being able to show him this picture of his dad.
