DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Most of the City of Danville animal shelter is now under quarantine because cats are getting sick from an unknown illness.

According to executive director Paulette Dean, since October the shelter got many cats in two separate hoarding cases. Most of the cats from one of the cases were very sick and have been in isolation. However, cats in the cat room are also getting sick. The animals have been tested for calicivirus, herpes, and chlamydia so staff members can determine what they are dealing with. The sick cats are on antibiotics; two are hospitalized at a local veterinary clinic.

Camp Bow Wow and Camp Meow Meow in the adoption center remain open to the public and will continue to receive incoming animals. New cats that are brought in will be isolated from the shelter's current cat population.

If you'd like to help the shelter you can donate bleach, paper towels and hand sanitizer.
