ACC Issues Fines to Virginia Tech & Louisville

The ACC has taken action in response to the “Wakeyleaks” scandal surrounding Wake Forest Football.

Former broadcast crew member Tommy Elrod was fired earlier in the week amidst allegations of sharing game plan information with three institutions: Louisville, Virginia Tech and Army.

After internal investigations and interviews, the Atlantic Coast Conference has issued institutional fines of $25,000 to both Virginia Tech and Louisville. Game plan info was shared with Virginia Tech back in the 2014 season.

ACC Commissioner John Swofford commented, “I am deeply disturbed something like this would occur, and regardless of the degree of involvement, the protection of the competitive integrity of our games is fundamental to any athletic contest.”

“Sportsmanship and ethical values are at the core of competitive integrity and in these instances, those were missing. The expectation, regardless of the sport, is that any athletics department staff members would immediately communicate with their supervisor if they are approached by someone from another institution with proprietary information.”
