BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - A Blacksburg man is giving up his week before Christmas to help wildfire victims in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Steve Bodtke will travel Sunday to the hardest hit areas with a team of people from across Virginia. They will use chainsaws to help clear out debris so insurance workers can have better access to the land as they assess damage.

"There's been a lot of loss, and it's just really overwhelming," said Bodtke. "I'm honestly not sure how it's going to feel getting down there, but the people need a lot of prayer."

The trip is organized by the Southern Baptist Convention's disaster relief office. Volunteers will return Thursday.
